Family with their dedicated monthly DriveDa driver outside their home

A monthly driver is a different proposition from booking someone for an evening. You are bringing a person into your daily routine, your car, and often your family's life. Done well it removes an entire category of stress. Done badly it creates a new one.

Here's what a monthly arrangement costs in Delhi NCR, what the hours actually mean, and the questions worth asking before you commit.

What a monthly driver costs in 2026

ArrangementTypical hoursMonthly range
Half day5-6 hr/day, 6 daysRs 11,000-15,000
Full day10-12 hr/day, 6 daysRs 18,000-26,000
Full day + Sunday10-12 hr/day, 7 daysRs 22,000-31,000
Live-in / residentialOn call, 1 weekly offRs 25,000-38,000

Gurgaon and South Delhi sit at the upper end of these ranges. Ghaziabad, Faridabad, and outer Noida run 10-15% lower.

Understanding duty hours

This is where most monthly arrangements go wrong. "Full day" does not mean the driver is available for whatever you need whenever you need it. It means a defined window - typically 9 AM to 8 PM - inside which he drives.

Agree these five things in writing before day one:

The single biggest source of disputes: undefined overtime. If your driver regularly stays till 10 PM on a duty ending at 8 PM and nobody has agreed a rate, resentment builds silently for months and then the person quits without notice. Fix the number on day one.

What is not included

Budget for these separately - they are on you, not the driver:

Monthly versus booking daily

The break-even is simpler than people assume. A full-day monthly driver at Rs 22,000 works out to roughly Rs 850 per working day. Booking a full day on demand costs Rs 1,200-1,800.

Monthly wins if you need a driver more than about 15 days a month, want the same person to know your routine and your family, or need school runs at fixed times.

Daily wins if you drive yourself most days and only want cover for evenings and weekends, travel frequently so the car sits idle, or simply do not want the responsibility of an employee.

Verification is not optional

A person with your car keys and your house address every day needs to be properly checked. Non-negotiable:

Our full hiring checklist covers the verification process in detail.

Handling leave

Your driver will take leave. Village visits during harvest, family weddings, and illness are all normal and all inevitable. The question is what you do those weeks.

Sort this out at the start rather than during the emergency. Either agree that he arranges a known replacement, or keep an on-demand booking option as your fallback so a fortnight in the village is an inconvenience rather than a crisis.

Frequently asked questions

What does a monthly driver cost in Delhi NCR in 2026?

A full-day driver working 10-12 hours across 6 days typically costs Rs 18,000-26,000 per month. Half day runs Rs 11,000-15,000, and a live-in residential driver Rs 25,000-38,000. Gurgaon and South Delhi sit at the higher end of each range.

Is a festival bonus expected for a monthly driver?

Yes. One month's salary around Diwali is standard practice across Delhi NCR and is widely treated as part of the package rather than a gift. Budget for it from the start.

What is a fair overtime rate beyond duty hours?

Rs 80-150 per hour depending on the arrangement. Agree the figure before the first day of work - undefined overtime is the single most common cause of monthly driver arrangements breaking down.

What happens when my monthly driver takes leave?

Agree the plan upfront: either he arranges a known replacement, or you keep an on-demand booking option as cover. Drivers do take extended leave for weddings and harvest season, so treat it as certain rather than unlikely.
